The Future of the Internet
Upon my seven year old nephew pulling out his mother’s
smartphone this past Thanksgiving, I heard the remark from my brother, “When I
was a kid, we had one computer in the whole school and everyone had to take
turns on it.”
Some are too young to remember the computer at school with
the built-in mouse on the keyboard or manually loading your video games onto
the very exciting and stylish Commodore 64, but in actuality this happened not
too long ago. Especially when taking into account the internet’s relatively
short lifespan of forty years. The advancements that have since been occurring
have met and exceeded even the wildest of imaginations from the early days. So
what is in store for the future?
The Cloud
You probably use the cloud in some form or another daily. Take for example uploading pictures to facebook so that they can be accessed from home, when on vacation or from your phone. Here is a video that explains the basics:
What does this mean for the future? Cloud computing is
expected to make its biggest impact in the business sector. By bypassing the
use of a server and minimizing IT services, cloud computing allows businesses
to pay for the amount of information storage or software needed in a “pay-as-you-go”
fashion thereby maximizing return on investment. The adoption of the cloud is
gaining in popularity at a steady rate.

Interactive Advertisements
According to Dr. Vinton G. Cerf , VP and chief
internet evangelist for Google, a more interactive and consumer-friendly mode
of advertising is the wave of the future. He gives the example of watching a
movie on your big screen television. Imagine a scene where the actor is sitting
at a table with an Apple laptop on it. Now imagining pointing and clicking on the Apple laptop using your remote control which
then brings up a menu that provides information about the laptop, how much it
costs, and where the nearest store is located to your proximity and even if you
would like to purchase it right at that moment.
This idea applies a more consumer friendly mode of
advertising. It gives consumers the ability to access the information when they
need it by way of the web, instead of being bombarded with advertisements that
you do not necessarily want to see. This could be applied to other means of
advertising as well. Another example would be billboards that have the
technology to interact with your smartphone for a more personalized experience.
great post!
ReplyDeleteI agree that interacive advertising is going to become very popular in the upcoming years. Businesses are beginning to do this by simply putting barcodes on their products that customer's can scan and be directed to their website. It is a great way to keep consumer's interested in the products and eager to learn more.
This is another step in the evolution of online business. It's developing a relationship with your customer that ultimately dictates a business's success.
DeleteWell Done, What will they think of next?
Interactive Advertising is going to become very popular and will draw more and more attention to people in the near future. It will help companys interaction with customers through bar code scans, etc. Consumers are going to want to become mor eknowledgable with their product which creates grea brand awareness. Great Job
ReplyDeleteI think the more inter active the consumer is with the company the stronger the brand loyalty grows, increasing good word of mouth, and over all make your brand more interesting . Some people might even pay more for a service just because there advertisements were more interactive with them making them more pro active to use the products. People who buy and use products would love to feel apart of the company who sells it to them.
ReplyDeleteGood job. Actually I'm pretty excited about Web 3.0 and new clouds technology to make our life easier and faster. I couldn't imagine what it would be in decades due to the developing web technology but I hope it could service for human better especially in environment control research and marketing data organization.
ReplyDeletethe cloud is already making our personal lives easier but it will make the business world easier as well. the only issue is whether or not businesses will take advantage of the opportunities that it brings.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of consumers being able to choose what products they receive information about. Not only is it more efficient for businesses but it is more convenient for consumers. There is nothing more annoying than being bothered by advertisements that you have no interest in.
ReplyDeleteGreat post.
ReplyDeleteI can tell you that even I feel old, only being 21 when I hear my younger cousins talking about how slow the internet used to be before they upgraded to cable, and complaining about the 'ancient' technology that was used prior to it.
With the creation of the cloud, all of your information is available to you virtually anywhere, its amazing.
Excellent post! I agree with Austin in the sense that even myself being quite young and growing up with technology, I feel quite old and lack information about new technology when hearing my younger cousins talking about it or working my computer better than I can. The way that the internet has evolved is amazing, the cloud is great for making peoples lives easier in both the personal and business world, which makes it very convenient for both sides. The future of the internet is doing nothing but evolving.
ReplyDeleteAwesome post! I remember when playing Duck Hunt on Nintendo was the coolest thing to do! I also remember when I was in elementary school and each classroom had one computer and it had the slowest connection (fast at the time) in the world. Its amazing that we can access the internet on our devices that are as small as our hands. Its truly amazing how far the internet has come and will continue to grow.
ReplyDeleteThat is a very interesting example you gave regarding interactive advertisements how it will be implemented in the near future. I like the example regarding the apple laptop being analyzed during a movie. I am all for providing the consumers the ability to receive and recover information about a product or service at the highest level of convenience. There is countless times when I am watching television or a movie , and i see an actor wearing a piece of clothing or a piece of jewllery that i am curious about. With technology advancing like this, busiensses can only profit from it, and it would add even more convenience and simplicity to our lives as consumers.
ReplyDeleteGreat article
Brad
The potential of the internet is amazing. It has experienced so much growth and helped so many people, companies etc. But there is doubt with everything, is the internet almost becoming to powerful? There have been circumstances where the internet has caused problems with society. eg. facebook
ReplyDeleteThe future of Internet would be very advanced and interesting, as mentioned above in the post about Interactive Advertisements in the future would be a very useful concept for the marketers as it would be customer friendly and customers would become more aware about the products due to the interactivity of advertisements and for sure it is going to be popular among both customers as well as marketers and then we can say good buy to the old advertising methods.
ReplyDeletecloud is interesting in internet life and our life as well. it make both our life and business life much easer. New internet is great technology to advertising and keep consumer aware about your product. good job
ReplyDeleteCloud computing is sure to become the future of data storage for computer users, as I stated in an earlier post in a different article I plan on using it as the space on my laptop is getting quite low and this may be exactly what I need. I also found your comments on the tech-savvy kids of today humorous, i can personally relate to this as I just recently saw my 6 year old cousin with a mobile phone, I found this astonishing as I didn't own my first smart phone until I was 16.
ReplyDeleteGreat post!
